George Raymond Richard Martin was born in September 20th, 1948 in Bayonne, New Jersey. He sold his first novel at the age 21, and he received an M.S (Master of Science) in Journalism the ensuing year. Even though he has written a huge amount of novels and short stories, besides his work as a writer for TV shows on CBS, perhaps his best known work is ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’.

‘A song of Ice and Fire’ is a series of epic fantasy novels that take place in a world where seasons last much longer than usual. Let’s say a kind of period similar to the Middle Ages. This world is separated in zones: the Seven Kingdoms on the West, the Free Cities on the East, and the Wall on the North. The series of novels is:
·    A Game of Thrones
·    A Clash of Kings
·    A Storm of Swords
·    A Feast for Crows
·    A Dance with Dragons
·    The Winds of Winter
·    A Dream of Spring

Why did this series of novels become so famous?

As I see it, the key factor of the success of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ is the way in which the writer mixes love and hate, intrigues and betrayals. Along the story, one finds that you can put yourself in the character’s shoes. Thus, the reader begins to hate some characters and love other ones. Besides, the presence of magical and mythological creatures in an unknown world full of mystery keeps riveted to the pages of the book.

But if by any chance you don’t happen to be so keen on reading and you would rather watch the filmed version, you can luckily do so by having access to the 2011 production.
Finally, if you have already got hooked on ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ you would like to know that a sequel is expected to come up on summer 2013.
Do you think you could wait till then?
